Sorry for the lack of new posts. Working on some big cool projects that I will share ASAP. In the meantime, here’s something I did very recently.
Slime From The Stars (II) album art.
"Celestial Bodies" (2013)
"Ghost in the Machine" (2013)
Autopsy of “Stereoscape” (24”x24” / 2013)
From pen work to completed color. My intention was not to do highlights originally, but that is what I ended up stumbling upon and liking best. Part of the fun of layers.
"Atemporal Romantic" (2013)
Autopsy of “Just Outside These Walls” (18” x 25” / 2013)
This is just playing with the effects of light on things in a flat illustration. Mostly working it out for an animation I’m going to try to tackle over the next long while. It basically goes from an ink drawing into my favorite color pallet: blues + reds and everything in-between.
Highlights for the effect of harsh, close light outside lifting the lobster needed to look bright, so I pushed these parts to almost white.
The last frame shows the final product before I added the “light” paint layer over the top of the window and flooding back to the opposite wall, going over all of the artwork to make it a bit hazy and overwhelmed (compare the last frame to the first, final frame).
I knew this was a hot idea because I came up with this image while burning myself with steam from my espresso machine.
