While I was coloring this I started playing with the removal of the black ink lines and found that it left its own interesting textures and interpretations of the original peice.

So here it is with and without its final lines.  I like them both.

Autopsy of “Desert Anthem”  (34” x 14” / 2011)

Here is a very simple, flat color build.  Essentially a pink background with deep blue and magenta animals.  I had the colors for this one in my head from the get-go, but getting them to gel right took some fine tuning.

The layers pretty much speak for themselves, I think.

Autopsy of “Pond” (22” x 35” / 2010)

This is the result of a several different illustrations, layered together based on an original sketch (which I seem not to have any longer).  I’ve showed the layers as they were done in ink and compiled in the computer.  The ink work was then copied and given their own dark colors depending on the fills.

After giving them their final colors I added layers of “fog” by using various transparency levels of light pink tones to add depth.  The last piece is without any layering FX or blurs added to particular layers yet.  Flat and without any real dimension.

Finally, I removed a small bit of the line work to leave just color fills, like on the skeleton arm.

Autopsy of “Sara’s Discography” (11” x 14” / 2010)

This was originally worked on to become an album cover that didn’t end up working out, so I fleshed out the rest of it (the last pic was the intended album art cropping).

Pretty simple build with some lines for shade around some of the edges.
