MATTHEW'S GUTS

Autopsies that help us break stuff down + see what goes into it + other shit.

  • Autopsy of “Cattack”  (24” x 24” / 2012)

This was to play more with color and variety than I had been in recent projects.  Here I wanted several long lines that could provide long strands of color.  The grid, helmet, and cat drawings were all on separate paper (for maximum detail for each piece) and then combined and colored digitally.

Was going for a kind of retro album or those 80’s Atari game boxes that commonly played with gradients and rainbows in their cover art.

    Cheers!

  • “Eat Human Beings” (2012)

While I was coloring this I started playing with the removal of the black ink lines and found that it left its own interesting textures and interpretations of the original peice.

So here it is with and without its final lines.  I like them both.

  • Autopsy of “Girly Music Machine” (13”x18” / 2012)

To test some color and lighting effects I am using for a current animation project, I did this peice.  It was based on some street musicians I saw in Seattle (sans having mechanical mouth grill things).

The reflections and street lights are basically just blured and transparent overlays that were placed in the environment after all of the color was complete.  I have a few more in this style I am working on currently that I’ll put up soon.
